I grew up amidst many cousins and friends going to an international school with an American curriculum. I moved out of my birth country when I was sixteen at the heels of a revolution in the last year of high school and had to adapt to a new country, new culture, and a new way of life. After high school, I moved to the US for university. I got my BA at University of Michigan and my MBA at Columbia University in New York. I moved to Canada after receiving my MBA to pursue my CPA designation. I articled with Ernst and Young for several years before joining my family business. I have worked extensively on the complicated generational transfer and setting up management processes to ensure proper stewardship of the business for the next generation. All of this work was juxtaposed against a backdrop of severe sanctions and a harsh business environment.
I have had the privilege to work for seasoned entrepreneurs and be a leader of several teams of dedicated colleagues and advisors. My current coaching practice is my way to give back to my various communities.
I have been on a life-long journey of independence, inter-dependence and empowerment. As a “Third Culture Kid” and having raised TCKs, I have a soft spot in my heart for people who have jumped from one culture to another and navigated the difficulties of moving, adapting as well as establishing a life in a new place. Despite the challenges of this process, when you embrace the change and build your new community, it is extremely fascinating and rewarding. You move out of your comfort zone and grow into a more empowered YOU.
On my path to independence, interdependence and empowerment, I faced a crisis of meaning, in my thirties. At that point, I was a CA, married, and had my first child. It was a very painful period in my life. With the help of a coach, I was able to write my own personal mission, values and BHAG’s. Staying true to my articulated values and acting on my mission has given me an enormous source of happiness and tools to navigate the rough waters of life.
